Whether you had natural or C-section, you may have heard a few people recommend that you take your new born to see a chiropractor. But why?
Chiropractors are able to treat babies from just a few minutes old. The birthing process is considered a minor traumatic process for the baby. These minor traumas may cause stress on the spine which could possibly lead to impaired nerve function, irritability, discomfort and /or tense muscles.
Chiropractic care for babies has shown to improve symptoms of colic, reflux, feeding and sleeping difficulties, irritability and discomfort.
What is colic?
Colic (also known as Infantile Colic) is described as unexplained episodes of crying for more than three hours a day, for more than three days a week, for more than three weeks at a time in an otherwise healthy child. Often, the crying occurs in the evening. Other signs may include clenched fists, pulling up of the knees to the chest and extension of the trunk or limbs.
What is reflux?
Infant reflux occurs when food is brought up from the baby’s stomach (refluxes). It is sometimes called gastro-esophageal reflux (GER). The condition becomes less common as the baby gets older.
